Clean California - Caltrans District 3
(530) 812-7282
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sacramento County – Following Governor Gavin Newsom’s announcement this week of $296 million in Clean California grants to underserved communities throughout the state, Caltrans will locally fund six projects in the Sacramento region and one project in each of the rural counties of Colusa, Glenn and Yuba to remove trash, create jobs and engage communities to transform public spaces. The grants are part of Governor Newsom’s Clean California initiative, a sweeping $1.1 billion, multiyear clean-up effort led by Caltrans to remove trash, create thousands of jobs and engage communities to transform public spaces.
“We are excited to partner with our local communities and elated the projects selected will benefit both rural and urban communities,” said Caltrans District 3 Director Amarjeet S. Benipal. “Our cities, towns and tribal communities are benefiting from Governor Newsom’s Clean California Initiative, and 100% of the projects will have a positive impact on these communities.”
The projects include a wide range of community enhancements for cities, counties, transit agencies and tribal governments to beautify public spaces, such as litter removal, landscaping and art installations, walking and bike paths, and other complete streets features that enhance safety and access to transportation. The grants will generate 3,600 jobs statewide, and recipients must complete their projects by June 30, 2024. The Governor’s California Blueprint proposes an additional $100 million to fund another round of Clean California local projects.

A New Zoo in Elk Grove
The hopes to build a brand-new zoo in Elk Grove in a 100-acre plot of land at Lotz Parkway and Kammerer Road. The zoo would sit on approximately 65 acres and would be 5-6 times the size of our current 14.7-acre zoo in Land Park. I am reaching out to members of our community with the hope of creating and maintaining relationships during the building and planning phases of the zoo. My goal is to create excitement and support within the local community for the new zoo project. I can come for an in-person meeting, or for meetings 20 or more miles away from Land Park I can do a zoom presentation.
Take-away Thought: This New Zoo will be as impressive as our community helps us to make it. We need everyone's help to make this a reality
About the Speaker Andrea Haverland:
As Community Engagement Coordinator at the Sacramento Zoo, Andrea Haverland’s primary focus is building excitement around the project to build a brand-new world-class zoo in Elk Grove, CA and encouraging grassroots fundraising efforts. She connects with community members of all ages to share details about the project and build community excitement. For 5 years prior to this role, she was the primary primate caregiver at the Sacramento Zoo for all of the apes, monkeys, and lemurs. She is deeply passionate about helping to create a new zoo that is the best it can be for the entire region, the animal caregivers, and most importantly, all of the animals who call the zoo home.

Pat Hume
Hosted by club member, Larry Gorham
This is a Hybrid Meeting. Both In-Person and Zoom. Our guest speaker will be attending LIVE.
Topic - Update, Pat's Vision for the Delta:
About the Speaker, Pat Hume:
Excerpts and Information from the Official PatHume.com website:
Pat grew up in Elk Grove and attended Kerr Middle School and Jesuit High School before receiving his BA from San Diego State University. After college, Pat moved back home to Sacramento County to help the family business following his grandfather’s death in 1998.
A native Californian, Pat was born on George Air Force Base in Adelanto, CA. His family lived in Salisbury, England and Fort Walton Beach, Florida until his father, Col. Harlan B. Hume died during active duty in September of 1977. After the Col.’s death, Pat’s family returned to Elk Grove, where his mother’s side of the family had lived since 1946.
His father served in the US AirForce and died in the line of duty when Pat was still in school. Pat’s grandfather Harry Hume was city manager in Chico from 1930-1950 and his mother’s family has had a strong presence in Sacramento County for over half a century. Pat is dedicated to veterans and has been a driving force behind the City’s Veteran and Public Safety Street Naming Program.
Pat models his sense of character and integrity on his grandfather Jim Guttridge, who served on the EGUSD school board for over two decades and was a charter member of the Rotary Club of Elk Grove. Decades later, Pat would go on to serve as President of the same club.
Pat and his wife Lisa are active in the community, including the Chamber of Commerce, Soroptimists, Project RIDE, Strauss Festival, EGACT, EGPAC and the Elk Grove Regional Scholarship Foundation – where Pat now serves as President. Pat chaired the extremely successful Spotlight Elk Grove and serves as a pro-bono auctioneer for groups like the Food Bank, Chicks in Crisis, and the Teen Center.
Local Commitment. Regional Leadership.
Pat served on the City of Elk Grove Planning Commission from incorporation until he was elected to the City Council in 2006. He has been overwhelmingly re-elected four times. His work on regional boards, including Regional Transit, Capital Southeast Connector Joint Powers Authority and LAFCO (Local Agency Formation Commission) has earned Hume the reputation as one of the area’s leading voices on transit and development.

The launch was at Stephens Brothers Shipyard just as she was 63 years ago, to the month, as the Amelia Marie. This has been said to be the greatest Stephens Yachts ever to come out of the Stephens yard in Stockton, CA. This beauty is the 4th largest and last Stephens.
