Joe Marcos: April 15, 1919 - November 7, 2020.

It is with deep sadness it is announced that Joe Marcos, more commonly known as Cousin Joe or Cuz, passed away on Saturday November 7, 2020.  He is survived by many family members.  For the last 30 years, Cuz resided at the property of his Cousin- Joey Sanchez and his wife Debbe of Walnut Grove.  Joey Sanchez is a Rotarian with the Rotary Club of Walnut Grove.

A remarkably independent man, Cuz had his driver's license renewed at the age of 99 years and 11 months for an additional 5 years, played golf once a week with his long-time golf guys, and spent most days keeping Joey on his toes.  Cousin Joe was 101 years, 7 months young and could be found most mornings having coffee with the boys.

Cousin Joe started early in life as a farmer with his family.  In February 1942, at the age of 23, he was drafted into the Army Air Corps, South Pacific where he fueled airplanes in WWII.  His passing ends a personal lifetime goal of being the last WWII Veteran standing.  After his Army Air Corps service, Cousin Joe retired in 1981 at the age of 62 from C&H Sugar.

Service to our country is generations deep in Joe’s family.  Recently photographed together with Cousin Joe are Joey Sanchez, Army, First Cavalry; Joseph Sanchez, Army Ranger; Eva Vokolec, Army Intelligence; and recently sworn in- Tristan Sanchez, Infantry for Army Ranger.  Thank you all for your service to our country!

All of us at Rotary send Joey and Debbe and their family our sincerest and deepest condolences for their sudden loss of their remarkably close family member.  May Cuz rest in peace.
